When Inventorying My Scrap Images I Discovered A Shoot Which Had A Distinct Leigh Bowery Essence. Leigh Bowery Was The Australian Born Performance Artist, He Was Also An Actor, Club Promoter, Pop Star, Fashion Model And Designer. Although He Was Born In Australia (26 March 1961 - 31 December 1994)He Based Himself In London And Became An Amazing Influence On Pop Culture During The 1980s And 90's. Those Who Fell Under His Spell Were Alexander McQueen, Lucian Freud, Vivienne Westwood, Boy George, Antony and the Johnsons, John Galliano, the Scissor Sisters And David LaChapelle. He Himself Was Influenced By Others Too Such As John Waters and artist Andy Warhol Which Comes Through In His Obvious Appreciation Of All Things Bad Taste When He Set Out To Shock You Were Going To Be Just That. He Was Quite Literally As Referred To As "Modern Art On Legs" By Close Friend Boy George.
“ Leigh Bowery, peripheral in the notion of art practice by combining dandyism and body art, reconstructed his image while performing ...[he] uses the expression of the 'other' to create a form of cultural lip-syncing transvestism."
Bowery Was The Art Director For Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy". The Clip Can Be Seen Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS1YzUR3BYQ&feature=related
But Here Are The Images Which Conjured The Memory Of The Amazing Leigh Bowery.
