When I was at school I did visual arts and wanted to base my studies around costume design in movies/ the designers. I remember my teacher telling me to look at the movie Orlando(1993), it's a film based on the book of the same title by Virginia Wolfe. It Starred Tilda Swinton and Billy Zane with Quentin Crisp playing Queen Elizabeth. I remember thinking the film was nothing less than bizarre but loved the costume design especially as the story travelled through the time periods and the sex of Orlando changed from man to woman. I came across this movie still moments ago and this all came flodding back- art class and rolled cigarettes behind the kilm.
